Two inmates are facing charges after Sara Sharif’s father was reportedly attacked in his prison cell with a makeshift weapon. Urfan Sharif, 43, was allegedly slashed across the neck and face using a tuna tin lid just weeks into his life sentence for murdering his 10-year-old daughter.
The incident took place at HMP Belmarsh in South London last January, according to court documents. The Crown Prosecution Service has now confirmed that Steven Sansom, 47, and Adam Watson, 39, have been charged with attempted murder and additional offenses related to the attack.
Both men are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 26. Daren Streeter, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London, stated that prosecutors worked closely with the Metropolitan Police to build the case, emphasizing that the defendants have the right to a fair trial.
Sources previously told The Sun that Sharif was lucky to survive the assault, which left him with deep cuts requiring stitches. He remains in the prison’s healthcare unit and is expected to carry permanent scars.
The attack came after Sharif, along with his wife Beinash Batool and brother Faisal Malik, was convicted in the brutal death of Sara. The young girl was found with over 71 internal injuries at the family home in Woking in August 2023. The trio fled to Pakistan before Sharif reportedly called police to confess.
Authorities later revealed that at least 15 opportunities to intervene and save Sara were missed before her tragic death. Sharif and Batool were sentenced to life in prison with minimum terms of 40 and 33 years respectively, while Malik received 16 years for causing or allowing her death.
