A doctor linked to convicted baby killer Lucy Letby has been found dead in his car on the anniversary of her first arrest, according to reports.
The physician, known in court as Doctor A due to legal restrictions, died on July 3, 2024, exactly eight years after the former neonatal nurse was initially taken into custody.
Authorities discovered his body inside a vehicle, and sources say his funeral has already taken place.
The doctor had been struggling with professional fallout following Letby’s 2023 conviction, reports indicate.
Just weeks before his death, he reportedly faced a disciplinary hearing over inappropriate text messages he exchanged with Letby while they worked together at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Those messages allegedly involved details about Baby N, a premature infant with hemophilia that Letby was convicted of attempting to murder, raising concerns about patient confidentiality.
Court documents previously described the doctor as Letby’s “boyfriend,” and she referred to him as her “best friend” and “love” in handwritten notes found at her home.
More than 1,300 texts were swapped between the pair, and prosecutors suggested Letby may have been motivated by a desire to see him rush to her unit during medical emergencies.
Letby, now serving a whole-life sentence at HMP Bronzefield, has consistently denied being in love with the doctor, instead insisting they were simply close friends who trusted one another.
The doctor himself claimed he was “misled” and “maybe manipulated” by Letby into sharing information about babies she had attacked.
Cheshire Police, already facing scrutiny over their investigation, have declined to release standard details regarding his death.
