A woman and her alleged partner reportedly used a dating website to lure men, then drugged them to steal their belongings—but two of their victims never woke up, leaving families shattered and prosecutors calling it a deadly honeytrap scheme.
Adina Mihai, 31, is said to have posed as an escort, meeting men for cash before secretly slipping GBL—a date-rape 𝒹𝓇𝓊𝑔—into their drinks. While she distracted them inside, her alleged accomplice, Madalin Dumitru, 30, reportedly waited outside, ready to help her flee with stolen watches, jewelry, and cash.
The pair, originally from Romania, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and two counts of administering poison with intent to injure. They were each sentenced to 17 years in prison at Oxford Crown Court.
Their victims included Gary Mouat, 37, and Malcolm King, 80, a big game hunter. Both died after being drugged in their own homes. Two other men survived the poisonings, according to court documents.
Gary’s nine-year-old son delivered a heartbreaking statement in court. “Why did you have to 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 my dad?” he asked the couple.
“You could have just taken the money … He was really kind, he would have given it to you.”
The court heard that Mihai reportedly contacted her victims through a Vivastreet escort ad, charging around £170 an hour. Dumitru drove her to meetings and waited nearby as she allegedly spiked drinks.
Gary was found dead last July in Banbury, Oxfordshire. His death triggered a national alert, leading police to re-examine Malcolm’s death in August 2024, which had initially been blamed on a health condition. Investigators later determined he died after drinking wine laced with GBL.
Prosecutor Julian Evans KC said the pair’s method was consistent: offer sexual services, gain entry, spike alcohol, steal valuables, then leave the victim unconscious and alone.
One victim was poisoned just hours after Gary’s death. He woke up to find his watch missing. A fourth victim lost jewelry and aftershave after drinking tainted vodka.
Police now say there may be other victims who never reported the crimes. Detective Inspector Adam Stacey urged anyone who suspects they were targeted to come forward.
