As if being locked away from your friends and family isn’t bad enough, Sarah Platt has also got a bully to contend with.
The Coronation Street favourite, played by Tina O’Brien, has been given a thorough slapping for pinching another prisoner’s chair.
It’s all part of the show’s new Bad Girls era, and Sarah is now paying the price for murdering Theo Silverton.
James Cartwright plays the late Theo, and Sarah’s looking at what seems to be quite a lengthy stint behind bars.
That’s despite her bent copper boyfriend, Kit Green, trying his hardest to make sure she remains free.
Kit, played by Jacob Roberts, has also been having a solid crack at making sure Gary Windass got sent down for the crime instead.
In fairness to Kit, Gary’s hardly innocent.
Besides the fact that he’s previously buried a wrong’un himself, he was the person Sarah called on after she smashed Theo round the bonce.
The blow sent Theo careening to the cobbles below, and Gary was the one she turned to in a panic.
He advised her on how best to stay out of the frame.
That’s something certified weirdo Jodie Ramsey helped with too, when she attacked Sarah soon after the slaying.
Jodie, played by Olivia Frances-Brown, did her bit to muddy the waters, but in the process, she convinced both Kit and Gary’s own partner, Maria Connor, that Sarah and Gary were locked in a torrid 𝒶𝒻𝒻𝒶𝒾𝓇.
The truth was far less salacious, and far less fun.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, Sarah was slapped with a pair of handcuffs by Lisa Connor-Swain.
Vicky Myers plays Lisa, and it was her job to send Sarah to the big house to await trial.
Kit isn’t prepared to just sit on his backside and hope a get out of jail free card lands in Sarah’s lap.
Oh no, he’s got access to all of the police force’s resources.
He’s devious and underhand enough to try and use them to accomplish both of his aims.
He wants to free his beloved Sarah, and he wants to see his nemesis rot in her place.
The resources pay off too, when Kit gets access to a hard drive containing a complete download of Gary’s phone.
The data shows Gary’s location shortly after the murder, and it places him on some wasteland.
Suspicious, right?
Of course it is.
You don’t just hang around on wasteland for a laugh, do you?
No, Gary was busy disposing of the murder weapon in his attempt to make sure Sarah didn’t go down for offing awful Theo.
Smug and certain that he holds the key to both Sarah’s freedom and Gary’s downfall, Kit teased Gary with the information he now possessed.
He invited Gary round to his flat later to discover the full scope of what he had.
And that’s where he made things perfectly clear.
Gary could hand himself in and admit to his role in Theo’s demise.
Or Kit would personally send the search team to turn the wasteland over, discover the weapon, and have him facing a heftier sentence.
Of course, Sarah hasn’t got a clue any of this is happening.
She loves Kit deeply, but she also has a deep rooted fondness for Gary, who came through for her in her hour of need.
She’s also pretty busy being bashed around for stealing another prisoner’s chair.
When Sarah’s daughter, Bethany Platt, visits, she’s horrified to see the big fat bruise on her mum’s face.
Sarah tries to play the situation off with gallows humour.
That goes down about as well as a dose of the norovirus with Bethany.
Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, is terrified for her mum, and she’s also feeling the pressure of the Kit and Gary feud on the outside.
When Sarah tries to distract from her own battered face by asking how Kit is, Bethany gets wound up.
She spits out that Kit is currently on a mission to convince Gary to confess to his role in the whole bloody 𝒶𝒻𝒻𝒶𝒾𝓇.
Sarah is left absolutely stunned.
