Ten Hag: ‘Don’t compare Garnacho with Ronaldo, Rooney’

COACH Erik ten Hag does not want Alejandro Garnacho to be compared to Man Utd’s monuments, after the 19-year-old student scored a masterpiece in the win over Everton in the Premier League.

In the 3rd minute of the match at Goodison Park, defender Diogo Dalot crossed the ball from the right wing to slightly correct Garnacho’s back. The winger born in 2004 turned around and leaned back to hook the ball to the far corner, causing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to fly as far as he could without touching it. After achieving a super goal, the Argentinian talent danced to the familiar dance of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. Garnacho also made an expression implying that the goal was a masterpiece by waving his fingers.

On social networks, many fans compared Garnacho’s goal with Rooney’s superb hooks in the Manchester derby in February 2011 at Old Trafford and Ronaldo’s in Real’s match against Juventus in the quarterfinals of the Champions League last year. 2018.

After the match, coach Ten Hag also praised and commented that Garnacho would probably win the Best Goal of the Season award, but refused to compare this goal with goals by Ronaldo or Rooney. “Don’t compare, I don’t think it’s right,” he said. “Goals have their own beauty.”

The Dutch coach wants Garnacho to continue working hard, maintain stable performance and score regularly if he wants to reach the level of Ronaldo or Rooney. The super goal against Everton was his first goal in 11 Premier League matches this season.

“To reach the level of Rooney or Ronaldo, Garnacho still has a lot of work to do,” Ten Hag said. “He has to work hard and do it consistently. So far, Garnacho hasn’t done it but has great potential to do great things. To become a player like Rooney or Ronaldo, you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League. That’s not easy.”

Ten Hag was also pleased that Man Utd’s three goals were all scored by attackers, belonging to Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial respectively. Before the Everton match, the “Red Devils” attack only scored one goal – Rashford’s goal in a 1-3 loss at Arsenal from September.

“Three Man Utd strikers scored and that was very good,” Ten Hag was satisfied. “That’s what we need, strikers playing at their best, scoring goals because that will help us as a team. The team needs that to be successful, that’s for sure. The goal also gave them confidence and we must maintain that in the next matches.”

The score of 3-0 does not reflect the reality of the match, where Man Utd faced many difficulties, only finishing nine times with four on target – compared to Everton’s 24 and 6. This is the first time Man Utd has won with a difference of at least three goals away from home in the Premier League despite taking fewer shots than their opponents, since their main win over Everton also with a score of 3-0 in October 2015.

The result at Goodison Park helped Man Utd return to the top 6 of the Premier League, with six points less than Arsenal’s top spot. Ten Hag’s teachers and students also gain more motivation and confidence before their trip to Galatasaray Stadium in the penultimate round of Group A of the Champions League on November 29.
