A tragic joyride turned deadly when four New Jersey teenagers allegedly stole a luxury 2024 Mercedes-Benz G Wagon valued at $220,000, leading police on a harrowing chase that ended in a catastrophic crash. The incident, which unfolded early Saturday morning, resulted in the heartbreaking loss of two lives.
The escapade began around 3:40 a. m. when the stolen G Wagon was first spotted in Longport, where it sped past a police officer attempting to initiate a traffic stop.
By 7:45 a. m. , the vehicle was pursued by authorities in Hamilton Township, but moments later, it veered off course, leading to a devastating collision.
As the teens sped down the wrong side of the road, they crashed head-on into a Hyundai sedan near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing. The impact sent the sedan careening into a nearby gas station, tragically claiming the lives of its occupants—54-year-old Robert Barr, Jr. and 67-year-old Alice Stilwell, both from Egg Harbor Township.
Known as a cherished mother and grandmother, Stilwell was remembered fondly by her family, who have set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral costs.
Despite the severity of the crash, the teenagers reportedly emerged from the wreckage with minor injuries and attempted to flee the scene. However, law enforcement quickly apprehended them. The group, including 18-year-old Nayshaun Brown and three unnamed minors, now faces serious charges including conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, joyriding, and eluding police.
