Dalot, 24, has been in good form for United this season, playing 16 times in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.
And having become a regular for Martinez at international level, he was expected to start in both of Portugal’s crunch games.
However, Dalot will be playing no part in either game for his country.
The versatile right-back has pulled out of the latest training camp.
And Dalot’s reasons for quitting are “personal”, with Porto’s Joao Mario replacing him.
A statement read: “Joao Mario will make his debut in a National Team call-up after being called up this afternoon to replace Diogo Dalot.
“The Manchester United defender was released from the national team’s work for personal reasons and after communication with the National Coach, Roberto Martinez.
“Joao Mario, FC Porto player, has 42 caps for national teams, including 15 at under-21 level.”
Dalot has 16 Portugal caps to his name, with 12 of those coming in the last two years.
He started in his country’s last five matches, helping them win each game.
But replacement Mario will be eager to take his chance in the side.
The attacking wing-back, 23, has played 111 times for Porto while winning two league titles.
He was a regular for Portugal’s youth sides and will now be hoping to make his debut during the international break.
