One Piece’s Blackbeard Could Have the Three Most Powerful Devil Fruits

One Piece’s Blackbeard ranks among the series’ most despicable villains, which is why it’s so scary that he might have three powerful devil fruits.

One Piece is famous for its intricate worldbuilding, much of which has led to several popular fan theories. One such theory centered around the heinous villain Blackbeard posits that, by the end of the series, he’ll have gone through one more major metamorphosis. With his inexplicable ability to have multiple Devil Fruit powers, this is one fan theory that may hold a significant weight.

One Piece’s Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, first debuted in One Piece chapter 223, titled “I Promise To Never Fight In This Town.” Here, Blackbeard and Luffy are shown eating at a bar, directly contradicting each other’s taste in food and almost starting a fight over nothing. Blackbeard was introduced with the idea of being a direct opposite to Luffy in nearly every way. This is also seen in the way Blackbeard and Luffy strive to become stronger. While Luffy trains and improves his Devil Fruit powers with every subsequent battle and only selects people he respects to join his crew, Blackbeard opts to just search for the most powerful Devil Fruits and pirates possible. There is a clear distinction between the way Luffy and Blackbeard go about fulfilling their dream of becoming Pirate King and this distinction may be the reason Blackbeard ends up with a third Devil Fruit by the end of the series.

In chapter 225 of One Piece, Luffy and Zoro make a strange comment about Blackbeard as they leave the scene of the battle with Bellamy. After Blackbeard makes his famous claim that a man’s dreams never end, Nami wonders if he knows anything about how to get to Skypeia. She tells Luffy and Zoro that they should just ask the guy what he knows, which prompts the two pirates to ominously respond by saying that “it’s not just one guy.” This is the basis for many popular fan theories which claim that Blackbeard either has multiple distinct personalities in One Piece or that his body is inhabited by multiple souls. This would explain why he was able to have more than one Devil Fruit power by stealing Whitebeard’s Gura Gura no Mi. On top of this, because of the way Blackbeard goes about trying to find powerful Devil Fruits, there is a popular fan theory that states that Blackbeard will eventually acquire a third Devil Fruit, this time a Zoan, in order to have the greatest power in the world of One Piece.

Blackbeard’s Devil Fruits Are Strong Enough to Destroy One Piece’s World

Blackbeard makes it no secret that he obsesses over powerful Devil Fruits, and was immediately smitten by the Yami Yami no Mi, or Darkness Devil Fruit, as soon as he laid eyes on it. Considering he believes that the quickest way to power is violence, this theory actually is plausible. According to figures like Sengoku, the former Fleet Admiral for the World Government, Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit had the power to destroy the Earth. Blackbeard also believed that the Darkness Devil Fruit was the most powerful one in existence, so it isn’t a stretch to say that Blackbeard currently has the two most powerful abilities in the world. Adding a powerful Zoan on top of these abilities would make him nigh unstoppable, and Blackbeard is definitely the kind of One Piece pirate who would jump at the opportunity to steal another Devil Fruit.

Blackbeard has been being built up as One Piece’s final villain for hundreds of chapters now and it just makes sense that right before his inevitable face-off with Luffy he would gain some kind of remarkable powerup. Whether it’s an Ancient or Mythical Zoan, it is certainly more than likely Blackbeard will acquire a deadly new ability sometime in One Piece’s future.
