The bait dog that was found discarded among animal carcasses in the woods of rural South Carolina is making a remarkable recovery thanks to the care he received from his rescuers.Rambo was first discovered by a member of Every Life Matters Animal Rescue clinging to life. He had been badly bitten all over, probably used as bait in dog fights, and then thrown away and left to die.He was rushed to the emergency vets where he was touch and go for a while. He is now in the care of Charlotte Animal Referral.Doctors tried to save his hind limbs, but due to the extent of the infection and injuries, they had to amputate both of his hind legs.Charlotte Animal ReferenceSince he arrived at CARE, he has received a lot of love.Charlotte Animal ReferenceIt also received an outpouring of support from dog lovers around the world.Charlotte Animal ReferenceHe has a favorite toy moose.Charlotte Animal ReferenceA frog is competing to become your new favorite.Charlotte Animal ReferenceAlthough he has lost his back legs, veterinarians are optimistic that Rambo will be able to bear weight on his heels with further skin graft surgeries.“Since it supports such good weight without implants or prosthetics, we returned to the goal of taking the pad tissue all the way down so that it has a good walking surface,” CARE wrote on Facebook.Charlotte Animal ReferenceMeanwhile, Rambo got a wheelchair to get around and is learning how to use it pretty quickly.In his free time he loves to give kisses.
