Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) future has been hanging in the balance on Coronation Street ever since she killed Theo Silverton and covered it up.
Sarah and Theo had a tense confrontation on top of the scaffolding outside his flat, and when he started making threats, Sarah pulled out a metal bar and struck him with it.
Theo fell to the ground below, where his body was later found by Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).
His killer remained a mystery for weeks, until a flashback revealed the events leading up to the fall, and Sarah’s actions in the aftermath – including her call to Gary Windass (Mikey North) for help.
Earlier this week, Sarah’s killer secret finally caught up with her when Theo’s blood was found on her clothes, and she was arrested in dramatic scenes.
Though she has spent most of the week twisting the narrative to explain away the evidence, tonight’s episode finally saw her give in and admit the truth.
Sarah faced further questioning from DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers), who revealed that they had gone through her phone records from the night of the murder.
It was at this point that Sarah confessed to killing Theo in self-defence, but she was still hiding something.
It was clear that Lisa suspected that Gary had helped with the cover up, but Sarah refused to implicate him, instead insisting that her call to him that night was about something completely unrelated.
Although Lisa told Sarah that she didn’t believe her, Sarah refused to drop Gary in it, even when Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) asked her to stop putting him before herself and her family.
She explained that she couldn’t ruin anyone else’s lives, and didn’t want to go back on the promise she’d made to Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) when she visited that morning.
Maria has been completely torn over Gary’s involvement with Sarah and decided to confront her, pointing out that she could also be at risk of going to prison as she had given Gary a false alibi.
Sarah had assured her that it wouldn’t come to that, but the phone records threw a spanner in the works.
With Sarah taking the full blame for Theo’s murder, could she be sealing her own fate? Is she set to spend the rest of her life behind bars? And will she be the only one?
