Taking to the court on September 2, the Doubles duo left the competition as they suffered a straight-sets loss to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova.

Venus and Serena hadn’t played together in Grand Slam doubles events since the 2018 French Open. They hadn’t played doubles in Flushing Meadows since 2014.

When the sisters have previously made the finals of Grand Slam doubles, they have been perfect – going 14 for 14 in the final round including two wins in Queens in 1999 and 2009.

Additionally, the sisters have won three Olympic gold medals in doubles at the games of 2000 in Sydney, 2008 in Beijing, and 2012 in London.

But the US Open game could have been their last appearance together, with Serena announcing her retirement from the sport as she plans to spend more time dedicated to her family.
