A father is grappling with unimaginable grief after his four children were found dead in a New York apartment, allegedly poisoned by their grandmother. Brady Harmon’s heartbreaking journey to reclaim his children’s ashes has also revealed the 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 living conditions they endured before their tragic deaths.
Harmon traveled from Utah to New York to bring his children’s remains back home, only to discover the appalling state of the apartment where they lived. The bodies of his children—13-year-old Harper, 11-year-old Hudson, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn—were found alongside their mother, Sarah Myers, and their grandmother, Amy Steadman, following a welfare check prompted by a concerned neighbor.
The grim discovery was made on June 23, after the neighbor reported a foul odor and flies around the building. Harmon was scheduled to reunite with his kids on July 1 due to a recent custody arrangement, but instead, he received the devastating news of their deaths from over 2,200 miles away.

Upon arriving in New York, Harmon described the conditions of the apartment as “deplorable,” stating, “It smelled like a kitty litter box in every room.” His description of the clutter and filth painted a picture of neglect, leaving him shocked and heartbroken. Harmon had not seen his children since 2019 and was unprepared for the reality of their living situation.

He expressed disbelief that Child Protective Services or any housing authorities had not intervened sooner. “It just doesn’t make sense,” he said, reflecting on the state of the home and the discovery of a cat weeks after the incident. Harmon noted that he found it difficult to identify personal belongings of his children amidst the chaos, revealing the emotional toll of sorting through their things.

In a poignant moment, he recalled the couch where he would speak with his children during phone calls, describing it as “kind of an eye-opener.” Harmon lamented the absence of love and warmth in the home, pointing out that there were no pictures or signs of affection typically found in a nurturing environment.

The relationship between Harmon and Myers has been complicated, with reports indicating that Myers had been under investigation by Child Protective Services prior to the tragedy. Harmon had filed for divorce in 2020, and their custody arrangement had just shifted in his favor, allowing him time with his kids during the summer.

As the investigation unfolds, Mechanicville Police have indicated that evidence suggests the grandmother may have played a role in the deaths, with reports of medications found at the scene. The medical examiner’s final report has yet to be released, but the details surrounding this heartbreaking case continue to raise questions.

As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, many are left wondering how such a tragedy could occur and what could have been done to prevent it.
