A tragic and unsettling story has emerged from South Carolina, where a 4-year-old girl, Javeayah Harris, is believed to have been abused to death by her parents. Authorities allege that the couple not only failed to seek help for their daughter but also attempted to conceal their actions in a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 manner.
On Thursday, investigators revealed that partial remains of Javeayah were discovered in Cedar Creek Reservoir, following an extensive search operation that involved over 200 first responders. Her parents, Johmarea Harris and Michilae Herring, were arrested on July 4 and face serious charges related to her death.
The couple reportedly reported Javeayah missing from their home in Aiken on June 30, but Sheriff Marty Sawyer stated that the little girl may have already been deceased for at least a month by that time. He expressed his disbelief at the horrific nature of the case during a press conference, emphasizing that he would refrain from using parental titles for the accused.
Sheriff Sawyer described the lengths to which Harris and Herring allegedly went to cover up their actions, mentioning the use of corrosive chemicals to dispose of their daughter’s body. He admitted that the depravity of the situation has shaken even seasoned law enforcement officials like himself.
Court documents indicate that Herring made a false missing person report after Javeayah suffered an unspecified injury during an alleged incident involving her mother. Both parents are now facing charges of homicide by child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮, along with additional counts for Herring related to the false report.
During their court appearances on July 5, both Harris and Herring were denied bond. Their cases have been transferred to a circuit court judge, who will have 30 days to make a ruling on their bail status.
