Single Mom From New Jersey Celebrates Her Daughter’s Doctorate Degree with a Billboard

Nationwide — Kendra Busbee, an African American single mom of two from Camden, New Jersey, is very proud of her daughter, Kristine, who has earned her doctorate. In fact, she is so proud that she decided to celebrate her achievement with a billboard for the entire city to see.Kristine, who is now 30 years old, recently received her doctorate in psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Kendra said it was her daughter’s dream to be a doctor since she was 5 years old. She studied hard without missing a day in school from kindergarten to 12th grade. She thought her daughter’s efforts throughout the years deserve an all-out celebration so she rented a billboard.

Kendra started the surprise by telling her daughter they will have an outdoor celebration at a parking lot with some family and friends. From there, Smalls saw a giant billboard featuring her picture and her accomplishments.

The billboard, which Kendra rented for $1,250, will be up for a month. She also wanted it to serve as an inspirational message to everyone traveling along the way.

“We once heard that nothing good comes out of the city of Camden, and we just wanted to let them know this is something good that comes out of the city of Camden,” Kendra told ABC7 New York.

“The kids there don’t really know what’s outside of Camden,” Kristine added. “Seeing somebody on a billboard becoming a doctor, it is possible.”
