Natalie Cassidy’s daughter, 9, rushed to hospital with arm ‘smashed to pieces’

Natalie Cassidy, beloved for her role as Sonia Fowler on EastEnders, faced a parent’s worst nightmare when her nine-year-old daughter, Joanie, was rushed to the hospital after a serious accident at school. The incident left Natalie shaken, recalling the moment she received the alarming call about her daughter’s injury.

Joanie’s misfortune came just weeks after she had undergone surgery to remove metal plates from her arm, following a previous fracture. Natalie, 43, described the overwhelming fear she felt, saying, “I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown.” The news that Joanie had broken the same arm again was devastating, forcing the family to abandon their plans for a relaxing staycation in Hertfordshire.

On her podcast, Life With Nat, Natalie recounted the day that took a turn for the worse. “Marc had set up the paddling pool and was getting the garden ready for what we thought would be a mini holiday at home,” she shared. “Then the phone rang. She slipped over in the hall before PE. I’m speechless. It’s so traumatic.”

Natalie explained that Joanie had previously experienced a clean break, but this time required surgery to insert metalwork. Just eight weeks after the plates were removed, Joanie found herself back in the hospital. “I really fell to pieces. I was not in a good place,” Natalie admitted, expressing her concern for her daughter’s health and the toll the situation was taking on her family.

The actress has been exploring the possibility that Joanie might have some underlying condition contributing to her frequent injuries. “She’s had full blood tests, and everything is in range,” Natalie revealed. “The consultant said it’s just really bad luck.”

Their hospital visit coincided with a record-breaking heatwave, making the experience even more challenging. Despite the circumstances, Natalie praised the hospital staff for their positivity and care. “They’re laughing, they’re joking. Just wonderful, wonderful people. We were so well looked after again,” she said, even humorously likening the hospital stay to a hotel experience.

However, Joanie’s injury poses potential complications for their upcoming vacation, as she will need medical clearance to fly with a cast. Natalie, who has portrayed Sonia for over three decades, left EastEnders last April, but has not ruled out a return in the future.

As she continues to balance her career and family life, one can’t help but wonder what lies ahead for Natalie and Joanie in their journey to recovery.
