Family’s heartbreak after husband’s trip to gas station on wedding anniversary turns into nightmare

A Colorado family was left heartbroken after a husband and father was beaten and left on life support following an attack at a gas station on their anniversary.

Jonathan ‘Jonny’ George was taken off life support and his organs were donated on his 34th birthday on November 10 after spending nearly a month on life support, according to 9 News.

He had been at a Circle K gas statement in Westminster around 7:30 pm on October 20 – the same day he was due to celebrate his fifth anniversary with his wife – when he was attacked.

George was found near the gas station he had walked to and was airlifted to the hospital with multiple skull fractures and his brain bleeding, according to 9 News and GoFundMe.

His wife wasn’t informed of his whereabouts until around 9:30 the next morning, she told Fox 31 Denver.

He underwent emergency brain surgery and was placed on a ventilator, according to the fundraiser, which has garnered $14,500 toward its $200,000 goal.

While on life support, George had to have fluid drained from his right lung, was treated for a blood clot and underwent a tracheotomy and G-tube procedure, the GoFundMe said.

He was declared brain dead in early November after he suffered a second brain bleed, 9 News said.

His wife, Ericka Halte, later learned her husband had called 911 and a commotion can be heard in the background, but he declined assistance.

‘Said he was close to home and he would make it home,’ Halte told 9 News.

His death has not been officially declared a homicide investigation.

Authorities did, however, put out a crime alert asking for the public’s help finding George’s attackers.

Now, his widow has been left to tell their three-year-old son that their father won’t be returning home.

‘I’m lost. I’m numb. I don’t want to feel anything,’ she told the outlet.

‘My days are mushed together.

‘It’s a big struggle.

‘It’s heartbreaking to tell your son he will no longer see his daddy.’

Police believe the incident is isolated.

The family is asking for help with medical bills as George had no insurance and bills are piling up, they told Fox 31 Denver.
