Teenage Kroger worker in Covington offers his own money to help man pay for groceries

18-year-old Teo Jordan was bagging groceries at a Kroger in Covington, Kentucky, when he overheard an elderly man at the checkout saying he didn’t have enough money to pay.

Teo, a high school senior, had been working at the Kroger for a few weeks in order to save enough money to buy a car. When he heard that the older man would have to put back some of his groceries, his kind heart wanted to help him.

“I saw that he didn’t have enough money for all the groceries that he wanted,” Teo explained. “The cashier told him he would have to put some of the things back, so I just thought in my head I would give him this $35 so he could have all the food that he wants.”

Teo reached into his own pocket and gave the $35 he had on him to the elderly man in line.

“I wanted to help the guy,” he said. “Just treat people the way you want to be treated [and] always help out if someone needs.”

Teo’s coworkers praised his act of kindness and word got back to his mother, Stephanie.

“I am proud of Teo,” his mother said. “I’m overwhelmed with joy. You try to instill in your kids right and wrong but you don’t know if they comprehend it, so yes I’m very proud, he was listening.”

“He gave him an extra couple of meals that he probably didn’t have. We just need to be human [to each other] again,” she said.

Teo plays basketball for Holmes High School and plans to study marketing at the University of Kentucky. He wasn’t looking for attention or praise when helping the old man, but he certainly deserves it.

“Just do something helpful for people, you know, let ’em know that God is there for ’em, and make sure they have a good day,” Teo humbly said.

Prince William has opened up about having the ‘hardest year in my life’ following his wife and father’s cancer diagnoses. In a remarkably candid – and at times emotional – interview at the end of his official visit to South Africa he admitted the past few months had been ‘brutal’. But the prince also said how hugely ‘proud’ he was of Catherine and the King for handling their health battles with such dignity and bravery.
