Stone shared that the real challenge was capturing Baxter’s different emotions and quirks. She mentioned the character’s eating habits, like figuring out how to handle devouring 60 Portuguese tartsβstarting off delicious but ending in a desire to puke. Stone added that portraying Baxter’s first experiences with death and decay was tougher than handling nudity.
In the Yorgos Lanthimos film, Stone portrays a character who comes into being when Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) transplants the brain of a deceased woman’s baby into her body following the woman’s suicide. Stone’s portrayal has already garnered her numerous awards this year, including the Best Leading Actress accolade at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards last weekend.
