As a part of First Time Directors program, Priyanka Chopra will help produce films by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour) and women filmmakers
Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a global citizen by every definition there is in the book. And when she said that she is eyeing global domination, she meant it. But the best part is that she is helping pave the way for other women, especially women of colour all across the globe. From her speeches at international platform to her interviews about her craft, PCJ is all about empowering members of her own tribe. In fact, in a bid to cement the same, the actress has signed up for ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group First Time Directors program where she will help produce stories that matter and give voice to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour) and women filmmakers, reports Variety.
As a part of the program, the Bollywood/Hollywood actress has joined hands with other top producers namely Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, Idris Elba, Salma Hayek, John Leguizamo, Eva Longoria and their respective studios to put out 50 films. Which will later be aired on MTV, Comedy Central, and Paramount Network. They will also be streamed on VIacomCBS’ premium streaming service Paramount+.
Talking about making actual changes happen via her production company Purple Pebble Pictures, Chopra Jonas told the publication, “Our mission was clear, to create opportunities where there were few, and to tell global stories for global audiences irrespective of location and language.”
“I am proud to say that we have remained true to that mission since the very first day, always prioritizing content over anything else. Not just the U.S., but the world, is a melting pot of different races, ethnicities, and religions, and the entertainment we consume should reflect the world we actually live in. I am proud to join ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group on this initiative to not only tell diverse stories, but to do so from diverse storytellers.”
The other production companies in the starry array are Angela Bassett & Courtney B. Vance’s Bassett Vance Productions, Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures, Salma Hayek’s Ventanarosa Productions, John Leguizamo’s Rebel Productions, and Eva Longoria’s UnbelieEVAble Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra Jonas will soon be heard in A World Of Calm alongside stars like Keanu Reeves, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman and others. She will then be seen in Netflix’s The White Tiger which is the official adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning best-seller of the same name. She also has Anthony and Joe Russo’s spy series Citadel opposite Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden. And some more!
