‘This kid is unbelievable’… Scott Minto left blown away by the quality of 21-year-old Chelsea player

Scott Minto was left stunned by the quality of one Chelsea player in this week’s rollercoaster win over Manchester United in the Premier League.

Chelsea picked up a vital three league points on Thursday by beating Man United 4-3 at Stamford Bridge, which definitely keeps them in the hunt to finish in the European positions.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have saved most of their success this year for the domestic cups, but there’s actually a chance to salvage the league season with a strong finish in their final nine top-flight games.

Next, the Blues travel to bottom of the league Sheffield United tomorrow evening for another important match.

TalkSPORT pundit and former Chelsea player Scott Minto was left amazed by the display of Cole Palmer a couple of nights ago.

The 21-year-old attacker stuck away a first senior career hat-trick in the Man United victory, which included two goals very deep into stoppage time.

He’s producing magic whenever he steps on a football pitch right now. It’s now 19 goals and 12 assists in 36 Chelsea appearances

Minto raved about Chelsea’s young sensation straight after the midweek win.

“Cole Palmer was the man who stepped up [for the penalty]. This kid is unbelievable. The class that he shows. The belief to step up again like he did against Manchester City. his former club. He’s done it here again against Manchester United. 3-3, but no he didn’t want to stop there, he still believed he could be the match-winner, be the hero like he has all season. Yes he got a bit of luck with deflection, but you make your own luck,” Minto told talkSPORT (10:21pm, 4 April).

Cole Palmer can get Diego Costa record

Remarkably, Palmer is now closing in on a Chelsea record held by Diego Costa.

No Blues player has scored 20 goals in a single Premier League season since Costa back in the 2016/17 campaign.

It would be quite some feat if Palmer achieves something no Chelsea player has done in the last six seasons. He’s got nine games left to score four or more goals.

Here below are Chelsea’s leading Premier League scorers in recent seasons:

  • Cole Palmer (2023/24) – 16 goals*
  • Kai Havertz (2022/23) – 7 goals
  • Mason Mount – (2021/22) – 11 goals
  • Jorginho (2020/21) – 7 goals
  • Tammy Abraham (2019/20) – 15 goals
  • Eden Hazard (2018/19) – 16 goals
  • Eden Hazard (2017/18) – 12 goals
  • Diego Costa – (2016/17) – 20 goals
