Captain America himself, Chris Evans, has revealed his favorite MCU outing, and it’s no doubt a choice that many will agree with.
Marvel star Chris Evans has revealed which of the MCU movies starring Steve Rogers is his favorite, while addressing the state of superhero movies today. Appearing at Emerald City Comic Con, Evans, who starred as Steven Rogers, aka Captain America throughout the franchise from 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, revealed that his personal choice for ‘Best MCU Movie’ is the 2014 effort Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
“[Captain America: The Winter Soldier is] my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of. It’s not just for the movie itself but the experience,” Evans said during a spotlight panel at Emerald City Comic Con. “The first film, I was so nervous. You know what you’re stepping into and as a result you’re playing defense and you’re playing not to lose. When Winter Solider came around, we were playing to win. And it’s the first movie with the Russo Brothers. We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”
Introduced during Phase 1 of the MCU, Evans’ Captain America was one of the original trio of main characters alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Featuring across the series in the likes of The Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War, the actor’s choice of The Winter Soldier as his favorite outing is sure to find many a Marvel fan nodding along in agreement.
Released in 2014 and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve facing deeply personal battles as he fights to uncover a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. while facing a mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier. Likened to the spy thrillers of the 1970s, Captain America: The Winter Soldier remains one of the highest rated MCU movies on Rotten Tomatoes at 91%, and, alongside Evans, is considered by many to be the best installment in the long-running franchise.
Chris Evans Says Some MCU Movies Are ‘Objectively Phenomenal’
During his appearance at the Con, Evans also addressed the state of current superhero movies. Largely since the release of Avengers: Endgame back in 2019, audiences and critics have turned their backs on the genre somewhat, with many doubtful that the MCU in particular will ever reach the heights of the first three phases.
“[Making superhero films isn’t easy]. If it was easy, there’d be a lot more good ones – not trying to throw shade. Some Marvel projects are objectively phenomenal films.”
Since the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Evans has not featured in the MCU, with the character being given the ending that he deserved. While there have been rumors that Evans could reprise the role, this is unlikely, with the actor himself saying he would not “want to mess up” Captain America’s send-off.
