Sydney Sweeney plays Julia Carpenter in Sony’s Madame Web, and a new BTS photo has revealed just how good her practical Spider-Woman suit looks.
A Madame Web behind-the-scenes photo gives the best look yet at Sydney Sweeney’s Spider-Woman costume. While the actress has been fancast as the Black Cat of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time, Sweeney plays Julia Carpenter in the Sony Spider-Man Universe movie instead. Julia has a major role in the film as one of the four Spider-Man-related heroes of Madame Web.
On Twitter, @SpiderMan_Newz shared the photo of Sweeney with her practical Spider-Woman costume in Madame Web.
Sweeney’s Spider-Woman appears upside down in the Madame Web image, with the new look at the character’s costume showing how its design is a great modernized version of Julia’s classic Spider-Woman suit. The behind-the-scenes image also does away with some fans’ fears that Sweeney and the rest of the Madame Web cast would don CGI suits.
What To Expect From Sydney Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter In Madame Web
Madame Web has been confirmed to be set in 2003, fifteen years before the first Venom. Sweeney’s Spider-Woman will be joined by another three heroines in the SSU flick. The movie’s team of Spider-Man-related heroes will be led by Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb, who has the ability to see possible futures. Madame Web‘s hero team is rounded up by Celeste O’Connor’s Mattie Franklin and Isabela Merced’s Anya Corazón.
After Madame Web, Merced will move to the new DC Universe to play Hawkgirl in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
A new Madame Web clip has shown how Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter will meet the other heroes. In the scene, Johnson’s Cassandra Webb uses her powers to see Sweeney’s character and the others getting killed by Tahar Rahim’s Ezekiel Sims. Rahim’s character is the movie’s villain, and he also seems to have Spider-Man-like powers, as the character has been shown to wear a very similar suit to that of the Marvel hero. Sweeney’s Julia is unaware of her powers, and being hunted by Sims should help her become Spider-Woman like she is known to be in the comics.
Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter is the second Spider-Woman in Marvel Comics, following in Jessica Drew’s footsteps. Carpenter is an interesting character, as she has also received Cassandra Webb’s powers in the comics, becoming the new Madame Web after the original bearer of the mantle died. Sweeney should play a major role in the film, though as Johnson’s version of Cassandra Webb is considerably younger than the character is in the comics, it is unlikely that Julia Carpenter will be taking over her mantle by the end of Madame Web.
Madame Web releases on February 14.
