Patrick Mahomes playfully remarks that he would prefer to be on the football field rather than chasing his kids around the backyard, especially with the freezing conditions expected during the Wild Card clash against the Dolphins.

Patrick Mahomes is likely not looking forward to the frigid conditions for the Chiefs’ Wild Card matchup vs. the Dolphins, but the star quarterback joked that playing in a freezing Arrowhead Stadium is not quite at the bottom of his list.

Temperatures in Kansas City are set to reach single digits (in Fahrenheit) on Saturday, with forecasts showing it will be around four degrees when the game kicks off at 8pm ET.

Still, Mahomes offered a humorous perspective when asked about the situation on Tuesday.

‘It’s gonna be cold. It is what it is,’ he told reporters. ‘I’d rather be playing a football game than chasing my kids around the backyard.’

Mahomes added of the weather, ‘If there’s an opportunity to go outside, Coach Reid is going to have you go outside [during the cold]. . . you kind of just adapt to it.’

While the No. 3 seed Chiefs will host the Dolphins this weekend, Mahomes and Co. do not hold home field advantage in the AFC after an underwhelming finish to the season.

Kansas City comfortably won a weak AFC West division but went just 4-4 after their Week 10 bye for an 11-6 record overall.

Mahomes will face Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins this Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium

That mark is three games worse than their record from last year.

Nonetheless, the Chiefs are adept at playing in cold conditions.

Less than a year ago, Kansas City defeated the Bengals in freezing conditions at home in the AFC Championship, as temperatures were around the 20’s for the game.

They won that game 23-20 before beating the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
