According to Julian Edelman, Patrick Mahomes has added pressure to perform due to his wife’s newfound friendship with Taylor Swift.

Mahomes has had a so-so 2023 season

Patrick Mahomes will face the Dolphins and the weather on Saturday night.

Patrick Mahomes had a less than stellar 2023 regular season, and it’s evident that the Kansas City Chiefs are grappling with a lack of offensive firepower, particularly in the wide receiver department. The team’s struggles have resulted in Mahomes and his teammates finding it challenging to put points on the board, unlike in previous years.

However, there’s a new element of pressure for the quarterback, as Julian Edelman points out. With Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, forming a friendship with none other than Taylor Swift, who happens to be in a relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, there’s an added incentive for Mahomes to perform well.

Edelman emphasizes the importance of Swift’s presence at the games, stating: “We need her at the games because the production goes down from the offense of the team when she’s not around… And Patrick Mahomes has to perform because his wife’s friends with Taylor now. He wants that relationship to keep going.” Edelman also mentions the camaraderie between Mahomes and Swift, highlighting their handshakes, baby toss rounds, and hip checks.

The 2023 season has been a tumultuous one for Mahomes, with a noticeable lack of consistency in his performance. His usual ability to single-handedly carry the team has faltered, with instances of missed open receivers, incorrect progressions in passing plays, and poor decision-making regarding where to distribute the ball. While the dearth of offensive weapons certainly plays a role in his struggles, Mahomes himself is not exempt from blame.

Despite his regular season woes, Mahomes has historically excelled in playoff games, making it to the AFC Championship Game every season of his career. As the playoffs loom, there is a sense of confidence in Mahomes’ ability to deliver when it matters most.

Looking ahead, a potential wild card matchup against the Miami Dolphins is in the cards for the Chiefs. Should they emerge victorious and the Buffalo Bills also secure a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a postseason rematch between the Chiefs and Bills awaits. The prospect of facing familiar foes in the playoffs adds an extra layer of anticipation to an already high-stakes scenario.
