The elderly Saint Bernard had led a long, hard life when she was finally rescued from a puppy mill.Rough Start Rescue found her a foster home and it seemed like Old Lady’s life was finally changing for the better.But what should have been the beginning of a new and comfortable stage in her life suddenly turned into a nightmare when the old woman suddenly disappeared in the cold winter forest and put her life in danger.
The elderly woman was very scared due to her traumatic experiences, and when she got out of her new foster father’s car, she unexpectedly started and ran away in fear.He disappeared into the woods and the chances of him resurfacing in the cold didn’t look good. The old woman had just received a shave and so she didn’t even have a nice fur coat to protect her from the icy winds and deep snow.
Despite intense search efforts, days passed without anyone catching Old Lady.The poor dog was so scared that she hid and took advantage of any opportunity to rescue.Even if she had had a full coat of fur, it seemed unlikely that she would spend several days, much less more than two weeks, alone in the forest.The hope of finding his ally was fading.
But the Old Lady was tougher than expected. She was not willing to let herself die, cold and alone, in the forest.Maybe she knew, deep down, that she deserved to be rescued and spend the rest of her life in a loving home.Against all odds, he stayed safe until finally, after 17 long days, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a dog tied up in the woods.Ruff Start Rescue revealed to their Facebook followers that Old Lady had become trapped by her leash in some of the trees.She had been very scared and they had to approach her very carefully, but they were finally able to free her from the tree and bring her with them.
Once she returned to Ruff Start Rescue, Old Lady spent some time recovering from her ordeal, but just a few days later she was ready to return home to her new foster mother.Ruff Start Rescue announced the happy news on their Facebook page, adding: “And yes… we have 2 leashes, 1 slip leash, harness and martingale collar along with 2 trainers. “We are not going to take any risks.”Ruff Start Rescue thanked the Retrievers for their help in the search for Old Lady, as well as everyone who helped bring attention to the situation. “Exposure is what made this possible,” they wrote on Facebook.
Finally, the old lady’s difficult days are behind her and she can begin to relax in the warmth of her new home. She is safe and sound and she will spend the rest of her life loved and cared for.
