A new rumor is claiming that Marvel Studios has met with Barbie star Ryan Gosling about potentially coming aboard the MCU, but the actor is not believed to be in talks for Doctor Doom!
Ryan Gosling was one of the many names rumored to be in line to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, and while the Barbie star is no longer expected to be in contention for that particular role (if he ever was), he might just be in talks to play a different character.
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Gosling has met with Kevin Feige about potentially coming aboard the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We don’t know if the actor is officially in talks, and Richtman doesn’t mention any specific heroes or villains, but we’re hearing that they may be discussing more than one character.
This is obviously just a rumor for now, but Gosling did recently part ways with Universal and Blumhouse’s Wolf Man, which he’s been attached to for over three years.
This could be a complete coincidence, or course, but is there a chance Gosling stepped away from the project because Marvel came calling?
Gosling hasn’t really seemed too excited about the prospect of playing a superhero or joining the MCU in previous interviews, although he did mention Ghost Rider as one character he might be interested in taking a crack at (could the Spirit of Vengeance be a possibility?) on a couple of occasions.
He also appeared to be a little more open to the idea while doing press for The Russo Bros.’ The Gray Man last year.
“I think they felt my Kenergy,” he said about the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors.
“They must have felt it before I did. I hope they can manifest this MCU thing. I think that would be cool.”
Which Marvel character, if any, would you most like to see Gosling play?
From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) comes Barbie, which also stars America Ferrera (End of Watch, the How to Train Your Dragon films), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell, Yesterday), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Matilda), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films, Talladega Nights), and more.
Gerwig directs from a screenplay she penned alongside Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the iconic fashion dolls by Mattel.
The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.
