Kanye West‘s purchase of a church led to a dilapidated building and eye-sore garden.
The rapper purchased the property from Cornerstone Christian Church in Northridge, Los Angeles in March 2023. Several months later, he hasn’t made any major renovations, despite the reported plans to move his Christian school Donda Academy into one of the buildings. Several month later, the lot is left in disarray.
In one photo, a white tarp or bag was left next to the rocky, unkempt driveway. It also appears that little landscaping is being done, if any at all. The trees, weeds, and brown grass are going unattended. All of this comes after the neighbours petitioned to not let Kanye rent the property. Their petition was overruled and the land was sold directly to the rapper, instead. 12,000 people signed the petition, spearheaded by Christian group Faithful America.
Their petition documents explained: “Ye, the rapper previously known as Kanye West, has been losing sponsors and contracts left and right over his harmful antisemitism – yet one California pastor says Ye’s recent hatred isn’t a dealbreaker for their Christian business partnership.
“On December 1, Ye clutched a Bible and shockingly said ‘I see good things about Hitler’ and ‘I like Hitler’ during an appearance on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s show InfoWars. He has previously tweeted other threats and conspiracy theories about Jewish people.

Now, the neighbours are forced to bear witness to the decaying church and they aren’t happy about it. One told The Sun: “I had no idea Kanye bought it but … it’s not a good look for the neighborhood, he needs to clean it up, you don’t want a bum breaking in and living there.”
Another said: “I see someone come and check the property every few weeks to make sure it’s OK, but they haven’t done anything to it, it’s been empty for months.”
