Here’s your chance to bag one of the 1970s’ best Porsche 911s

The Porsche 911 has had many high points in its nearly 60-year history, and this 1972 911 2.4 S coming up for auction with Art Rite on May 6th is one of them.

This spectacular Porsche 911 2.4 S sat right at the top of the Porsche pecking order when it left the factory in 1972. Boasting more power than it’s 911 T or E siblings, the 190 horsepower S naturally claimed the highest top speed of the lot too, easily capable of reaching 143 mph. That’s certainly enough thrust to get you in trouble today, and back in the 1970s, those figures put the 911 S on par with many of the brawn-over-brain muscle cars available in the USA at the time. Even better, it came with a handsome front spoiler reminiscent of the 908/03 race cars tailored for the Targa Florio and Nurburgring.

Despite the numerous improvements Porsche had already heaped onto their rear-engined sports car since it launched in the early 1960s, this 911 S still looks extremely similar to those first 2.0-litre cars, and therefore retains the clarity of design that made the 911 an icon to this day. Take a peek inside, and you’ll notice a very handsome brown leather interior that appears nearly factory fresh. The fabulous condition of this example is all thanks to marque experts, Carrozzeria Bottini, who treated this car to a full restoration. This beautiful matching numbers Gemini Blue 911 represents an undeniable sweet-spot in Porsche’s back catalogue, and if you’re lucky, you could add it to your garage at Art Rite’s Collector Cars sale on May 6th.
