The interview was supposed to be a celebration of Atlanta rap, two hometown kings showing love on air. Instead, it turned into a live standoff that had everyone in the studio holding their breath. “What you got to say, John? What the hell do you have to say, John?

”
Young Jock had been circling around the topic all segment, and now he finally just said it. He brought up T. I. ’s marriage to Tiny, right there on live radio, with the whole city listening.
“Look, I love you, man,” Young Jock said. “I don’t want to see you and your entire split, man. ”
“That ain’t your business, man. ”
“You’re right.
It ain’t. But we on air right now, people want to know. ”
“I know we on air. I’m not telling you on air.
It ain’t your business, man. ”
The tension was thick enough to cut. T. I.
had been fighting to save that marriage since Tiny filed for divorce, and he wasn’t about to air it out for entertainment. Young Jock finally backed down, but the message was clear—there were lines you just didn’t cross with the King of the South. It wasn’t the first time T. I.
had to check one of his own, and it wouldn’t be the last. Years before the radio incident, he had to humble a young Lil Boosie in the studio. Back then, Boosie was the one with all the momentum, and T. I.
was allegedly ghostwriting for him. But Boosie made the mistake of treating T. I. like an assistant.
“Yo, hey, hey, while I’m writing, give me a Sprite, man,” Boosie asked. T. I. looked at him, and Boosie knew instantly he had crossed a line.
“Hey, check this out here, pimp. I’mma tell you something right now. Over here, partner, I don’t know what y’all do over there, but JD ain’t over here. Get your own goddamn sodas around this boy.
I’m going to teach you how to be a man, boy. Ain’t no D-boys around here. ”
Boosie learned a lesson that day, and the two eventually became homies. But years later, T.
I. had to check him again. Boosie was in the club when a track he had with T. I.
’s ex, Sierra, started playing. They had been broken up for a while, but Boosie still dissed her in front of the whole club, yelling, “I had the bitch first. ”
T. I.
and Sierra were still friends, had music together. When T. I. heard what Boosie said, he checked him hard.
“That’s like my bitch first and you put me on. If I dropped your ass off and never came back, and this is how you switch sides? Look why you switch sides. ”
Sometimes the disrespect didn’t come from homies.
Sometimes it came from clout-chasers who should have known their place. The Island Boys went viral for the wrong reasons when they spat one of the worst freestyles ever recorded in a pool. They got dragged all over social media, but instead of laying low, Fly Solid decided to beef with the one man who had never lost a war in rap history. Snoop Dogg had a show with Kevin Hart, and they took their turn clowning the viral duo.
“Two goofballs in the pool,” Snoop joked. Fly Solid snapped. He jumped on Instagram and threatened to put hands on Snoop. “On everything I would have fed.
I would have beat his on everything. I swear to God my life I would have. ”
Snoop wasn’t impressed. He clowned them again, pointing out that everybody already knew they couldn’t fight, especially after they boxed each other and after Kodiyakredd lost to Charleston White, who was almost 50 years old.
Snoop was a real OG who came up in Long Beach and famously beat a murder charge. Everyone thought Fly was talking way too crazy. Rumors said the Island Boys got checked for real behind the scenes. Suddenly, Fly Solid hopped back on social media with a completely different tone.
“Hey, my fault. I didn’t mean to be mean to Snoop Dogg. All of the Snoop Dogg, you know, it’s just he’s an inspiration, you know, he kind of put me down with the way how he was talking about me. ”
When 50 Cent checks someone, he means it.
He survived the streets of Queens and bounced back from getting shot nine times. He wasn’t afraid of anyone. A rapper named Trav had been around 50 Cent and G-Unit since he was 13 years old. But then they fell out, and Trav started taking shots at 50 on social media.
50 gets into a lot of internet beef that never goes anywhere, but this time he actually put hands on Trav. Trav was chilling with Meek Mill at a 50 Cent show. When 50 told Meek to come up on stage, Trav was right behind him. 50 warned Trav not to come up, but Trav didn’t listen.
In front of the whole crowd, 50 pushed him off the stage. Meek had to step in just to stop Trav from getting stomped out. “I was able to leave if I was a bitch. If I was a bitch, I could have just said, ‘You know what?
I’mma leave. ’ Or ‘You know what? I’m not going to go on that stage. ’ Or when he said, ‘Yo, nah, he got to get off my stage,’ I could have walked away.
I know a lot of rappers today that 50 would have said that to them and they would have turned around and said, ‘Homie, I’m a man, homie. ’”
Another no-name rapper tried to make 50 listen to his music while 50 was out getting dinner. 50 wasn’t in the mood. The dude got heated when 50 refused to listen, trying to get 50 to crash out on camera.
But 50 was too smart for that. He just walked away, knowing the dude wasn’t worth his time. Jay-Z built his legend on the streets of Brooklyn before he became a billionaire. He shot his own brother for stealing from him, stabbed a dude who allegedly leaked his music.
So when Jay-Z spotted Offset backstage at a show, everyone knew the situation was serious. The video had no audio, so nobody knows exactly what was said. Some claimed Jay-Z was heated because Offset kept calling Cardi B “Beyoncé” like it was a joke. There was no evidence to back that story up, but whatever happened clearly worked.
A few years later, Offset gave Jay-Z the highest praise he could offer on his list of greatest rappers of all time. “I got to say, Hov, you know, sometimes the success is the reason why people say he’s the greatest of all time. What he did after rap. Bro, on rap, you can’t play with him.
He always had the biggest records. He always got with the biggest people and did the biggest records. ”
Some beefs start over disrespect. Some start over stolen flows.
Tory Lanez and Travis Scott got into it because people were saying Tory stole Travis’s flow. Tory clapped back and said he couldn’t sound like somebody he used to write for. “The reason why I said that whole ‘I can’t sound like anybody I wrote for’ is because there’s a lot of people that in that time remember you was like, ‘Yo, you sound like this guy and that guy, whatever the case is. ’ And I was just like, ‘Pillow, you remember I’ve been doing this before I had heard of these people.
’”
Travis wasn’t cool with Tory airing that out, and he tried to check Tory when they ran into each other at a festival. Travis probably wasn’t expecting what happened next. Tory is a small dude, but he was ready for all the smoke. “You a legend for making this song,” Tory said.
“At the end of the day, I said what I said. If you felt a way and you want to handle it the way you want, that’s why we here right now. Everyone can get out of here. Literally, every single person can get out of here and we can shoot the fade, my nigga.
”
Travis wasn’t trying to throw hands. Eventually, they cooled off, and Tory even apologized on a track. “Me and Travis Scott almost fought at the Maluna. We both agreed surely that it was music.
We possibly could be doing as bigger than trying to ruin it. So, my apologies, nigga. Just forgive me for doing it. ”
Gucci Mane has killed a dude and beat the case.
He’s one OG you definitely don’t try to press. Ola Runt is from the same area of Atlanta that Gucci came up in, and Gucci was allegedly about to sign him. But then they got on IG Live together, and Ola tried to press Gucci about some music they were making. “You act like you can’t listen.
But now the music, you ready to do the music though. You tried me earlier. You told the nigga what you told me. N man, we don’t lie.
I really feel trying. ”
Ola tried to laugh it off, but he got humbled fast. Rumors say Gucci shut the whole signing deal down right then and there. Ola Runt fumbled the bag.
Ola isn’t the only one Gucci shut down. At a radio show meet-and-greet, a random rapper pulled up and asked to freestyle for Gucci so he could get signed. Gucci wasn’t feeling it at all. The dude started rapping, and Gucci shut him down, telling him to move on.
Gucci also checked NBA YoungBoy after YoungBoy dissed him on a track for a Lil Durk song. “Used to fuck with Gucci till I seen he like them niggas. Mama know I’m ruthless, talking stupid make me bust a nigga. ”
Gucci doesn’t crash out like he used to, but he wasn’t about to let that slide.
He clapped back with a track called “Publicity Stunt. ”
“He trying to pull a publicity stunt. These rappers be bitches. They bleed once a month.
Don’t speak on my name. Don’t get put in the blunt. You can diss all you want. Still won’t get a response.
And why you diss me for publicity? Is you in the streets or an industry nigga? Is you my fan or my enemy, nigga? ”
Gucci has never been afraid of smoke with other OGs either.
There was a long-standing beef with Jeezy over a killed homie named Pookie Loc. They allegedly squashed it, but then Gucci started clowning Jeezy again, even playing a track where he dissed Jeezy and Pookie Loc with the line: “I think the nigga just mad cuz I fucked his ex and I’m a big dog. He got the little boy complex. Go dig your partner up, nigga, bet he can’t say nothing.
And if you’re looking for the kid, I’ll be in Zone 6. ”
J. Cole put in the work for years to make his own way in the industry without major label co-signs. So when a wave of mumble rappers took over, Cole checked all of them on the track “1985.
”
“You could have bought a crib with all that bread that you done blew. I know you think this type of revenue was never ending, but I want to take a minute just to tell you that ain’t true. ”
Lil Pump had been dissing J. Cole for a while, and he heard that message loud and clear.
Cole even rapped about Pump specifically: “Now you old news and you going through regrets cuz you never bought that house, but you got a Benz and a bunch of jewels and a bunch of shoes and a bunch of fake friends. I ain’t judging you. ”
Lil Pump got so pressed that he went out and dropped $4. 5 million on a mansion out of spite.
“I just woke up the other day. I got bored. So you know what I did? I went and dropped 4.
5 million on the house. ”
But everything J. Cole said about Pump going broke turned out to be true. A few years later, the IRS came after Lil Pump because he owed over $1 million in taxes on that same crib.
J. Cole wasn’t the only OG who checked Lil Pump. Eminem has always hated mumble rap, and on “The Ringer,” he named names. “So finger bang, chicken wing, MGK, Iggaz, Lil Pump, Lil Xan, imitate Lil Wayne.
I should name everybody in the game. Pick a name. ”
Lil Pump clapped back, saying Eminem was lame and nobody was listening to his old ass anymore. “Eminem, you is lame as hell.
Ain’t nobody listening to your old ass. You lame as fuck. ”
But while Eminem kept running up crazy numbers, Lil Pump never hit the charts again. Now the only time people pay attention to him is when he’s performing at his grandma’s 90th birthday party.
When Fat Joe asked Pump about the Eminem beef years later, Pump tried to act like he didn’t even remember it. “Who? Eminem? I don’t remember that.
”
Eminem isn’t the reason Pump fell off, but MGK went up against M and got his whole career destroyed. MGK was having a massive run in rap, but then he sparked a beef with Eminem that changed everything. It started with MGK calling Em’s daughter hot. Then he said Em was trying to get him blackballed.
Then MGK dissed him on a track called “Rap Devil. ”
“I popped cherries and posters. You popsicles, it’s not hard. Popped in on the top charts out the cop car to remind y’all, you just rap, you’re not gods.
”
Eminem has won almost every beef he’s ever been in. Everyone knew MGK was about to go down. Eminem responded with one of the craziest diss tracks in rap history, “Killshot. ” At the end, he said MGK only had a career because Eminem gave him attention.
“In a state of bliss cuz I said his goddamn name. Now I got to bob back. Hey, yeah, nigga. Pop champagne to this.
It’s your moment. This is it. As big as you’re going to get. So enjoy it.
Had to give you a career to destroy it. ”
After that, nobody took MGK seriously in rap anymore. He switched to pop punk. Nicki Minaj has been one of the biggest women in rap for years, and she’s always been willing to get into it with the people she feels disrespected her.
She once threatened DJ Akademiks’ family because she thought he was dissing her. “People like you rap won’t stop your jaw from being broken. ”
Akademiks tried to play it off with jokes on Twitter, but rumors say Nicki’s team actually got to him. Nicki has real ties to the streets.
She married Kenneth Petty, a man who killed a dude and spent seven years in prison. He made it clear he was willing to crash out for her. When Nicki and Cardi B started beefing again, Kenneth and his goons went live on IG trying to hunt down Offset. Nicki even bragged about Kenneth catching bodies on her track “Zanies and Fools.
”
“I met my husband when I was 17 out in Queens. If you love it, let it go. While he was up north for a body, I bodied everybody and got known for my body. ”
Rumors say Akademiks got pressed behind the scenes after leaking the DMs Nicki sent him, which is why he’s been riding for her ever since.
In 2025, Nicki started taking shots at a former NFL player named Dez Bryant. Dez and Rock Nation Sports were in the headlines over issues with a linebacker named Micah Parsons. Nicki jumped in and aired Dez out for allegedly putting hands on his own mother. Dez clapped back and called Nicki a “weird hoe.
” Nicki told him she’d put up $10 million in cash if he would fight her husband, Kenneth Petty. Dez Bryant didn’t back down and said he was going to stomp Kenneth out right in front of her. Drake isn’t usually the type to check dudes, but YK Osiris pushed him too far. Drake and Osiris were cool back in the day.
Osiris had borrowed $60K from Drake and wasn’t paying it back. Instead of handling it in private, Drake clowned him in front of everyone, making Osiris sing for him to work off the debt. “You owe me 60 bags. I’m playing this song right now.
You ready? I need you no more. You don’t owe me no money right now. I swear I need a full performance though.
I’m serious. ”
It wasn’t a good look for Osiris. Drake stopped rocking with him completely, and later dissed him on “More M. ”
“Got so many heads it wouldn’t be fair to do no versus.
I could really go five hours in the stadium. What happened to that nigga claiming OVO? We traded him. Thought I was a pop star.
I’m Starter Gang. I baited him. ”
Drake wasn’t the only one who checked Osiris about money. Lil Baby gave him $5K and checked him about it when they ran into each other at Icebox.
Osiris tried to laugh it off, but Lil Baby let him know how serious the situation was, then put out 80 racks in the middle of the shop to show he wasn’t playing. Even Kanye West has had to check his own homies. In the studio one day, Kanye wasn’t happy with how a track was sounding. He couldn’t hear the bass, and he started yelling at the engineers.
“George, where’s the bass? ”
Chance the Rapper, who had been tight with Kanye for years, stepped in to try to calm him down. But Kanye wasn’t having it. He got right in Chance’s face and started screaming at him.
It looked like the situation was about to get physical. It didn’t, but Chance was visibly shook. He later told The Morning Hustle that the moment made him re-evaluate his entire friendship with Kanye. “It made me evaluate my friendship with him for sure, cuz it was like I had never been so close to him going through an episode like that.
”
Even in the highest rooms of the rap game, respect is the only currency that matters. Cross that line, and any of these OGs will remind you exactly who you’re dealing with.
