Jadon Sancho is reportedly wanted by Borussia Dortmund in a sensational swap deal that could see forward Donyell Malen move to Manchester United.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The England international joined the Red Devils ahead of the 2021-22 season for a fee of £73 million ($101m) from the Black and Yellows. However, Sancho failed to find his feet in the Premier League and after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag for a rant against him on social media, for suggesting that he was being made a scapegoat for the Red Devils’ struggles, the winger remains banished from the first team squad.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
According to Sport Bild, Sancho could head back to Signal Iduna Park in a swap deal with Malen, a player who is admired by Ten Hag. The Dutch forward has got on board a new agent, Maikel Stevens, as he wants to manufacture a move to England. Steven’s agency, SEG, brought Rasmus Hojlund to Old Trafford from Atalanta BC and also looks after the interests of Ten Hag – which could facilitate a swap deal between the two clubs.
DID YOU KNOW?
Dortmund could initially bring Sancho on loan to Germany and are ready to sell Malen at the same time for €30m (£26m/$32m), the same amount that they paid to PSV Eindhoven to sign him in 2021. However, Sancho must be ready to take a significant pay cut to get back to Dortmund as the German powerhouse will not match the whopping £350,000 per week wages.
WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHO?
Sancho has been reportedly training “like a beast” to keep himself fit to pounce on any opportunity that might come up in January. Apart from Dortmund, he has also been linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus where he would look to revive his sinking career.
