Reports have claimed that Chelsea have opened talks with one youngster in an attempt to get him to sign a new deal with the club.
According to The Athletic, the Blues are looking to extend the contract with Leo Castledine, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.
Castledine has emerged as an extremely important player for the U21 side this season, with him being a predominant feature in both the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
He has more goal contributions than games in the former competition, with him starring predominantly in an attacking midfield role.
His impressive form saw him rewarded with a call-up to the bench for the senior side when they recently took part in EFL action against Blackburn Rovers.
He has been described as ‘highly-rated’ by those at the club, with coaches reportedly massive fans of him.
Castledine new contract
Castledine’s current contract expires at the end of this season, and what he has shown for both his club and country has convinced the Blues that they want to keep hold of him.
There is a reported confidence from Chelsea that they will be able to get a deal over the line to keep hold of the Englishman.
This is despite a clear priority placed on signing young stars from around the world before they are snapped up by fellow elite sides.
The highlight addition has certainly been Kendry Paez, who is not able to join up with the Blues until 2025.
However, he has already established himself as a regular starter for the Ecuador senior side, featuring regularly alongside Moises Caicedo in the midfield.
Reports today have claimed that the Blues have agreed a deal to sign Gabriel Moscardo from Brazil, however there have been countering claims that no deal has yet been reached and the race is still open.
