‘Intelligent’… What Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez did last night vs Brazil that Argentine media absolutely loved

Argentine media were full of praise for the performance of Enzo Fernandez for his country last night.

TYC Sports in particular praised the Chelsea man for his defensive work in his country’s 1-0 win over fierce rivals Brazil.

Fernandez may well have been feeling the pressure a bit while representing his country after he put in a disappointing display last time out against Uruguay.

However, he and his country bounced back with a big win over Brazil, who now face more of a battle to even qualify for the competition.

They have been struggling particularly ever since Thiago Silva has stopped representing his country, with him approaching the final stages of his career.

While those who were actually on the pitch struggled to do the business for the five-time World Cup winners.

Fernandez impresses for Argentina

Fernandez played his part in the middle, with TYC Sports highlighting his work when the opponents were in possession as a real positive.

Fernandez played his part in the middle, with TYC Sports highlighting his work when the opponents were in possession as a real positive.

They said: “Enzo Fernandez: 6. He was double 5 with De Paul, intelligent for blocking and obstruction when defending and trying to clean the game in each exit although very far from Alisson. Correct 70’ from Enzo.”

Chelsea fans will have been delighted to see him get through the traditionally spicy affair without picking up an obvious injury.

However, it remains to be seen if playing into the early hours of Wednesday morning UK time have an impact on whether he will be able to be fully fit for the return of the Premier League.

The Blues are preparing to face Newcastle United on Saturday, and Mauricio Pochettino may be looking to his depth to try and give him a rest.

It remains to be seen if the game is going to be too soon for Romeo Lavia, who has stepped up his recovery in recent days.
