Margot Robbie’s beauty look at the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiere subtly paid homage to Sharon Tate.

Margot Robbie has one color on her mind these days: orange. She’s been wearing it on her eyes, lips, and even her nails, and we’re just as obsessed with the hue as she is. But not only does the beautiful color combination look incredible on her, it also has a deeper meaning.Robbie and her makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, didn’t choose the warm shades flippantly. “Hot Summer ’70s vibe,” is how Dubroff described the look, sharing a vintage photograph of American model and actress Lauren Hutton on her Instagram stories that clearly served as inspiration for Robbie’s hair and makeup.

In the photo, Hutton wears a floaty white dress with a deep V-neck, fluffy blonde waves, and monochromatic orange makeup. If you weren’t paying attention, you might even think it’s Robbie you’re looking at in the picture instead of Hutton.Throughout the entire press tour — starting at the Cannes Film Festival — Robbie and her glam team have paid homage to actress Sharon Tate (the woman Robbie plays in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) through their beauty and fashion choices. This time around, the team referenced Tate’s contemporary (Hutton modeled around the same time as Tate in the 1960s).In addition to sharing her inspiration, Dubroff also listed the exact Chanel products she used to create the orange look in the case you’re looking to play around with the hue at home (and you should, makeup artists often say orange makeup is similar to bronze in that it gives the skin a sun-kissed effect). To warm up Robbie’s complexion, Dubroff started with Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base ($50), a sheer cream bronzer, followed by Chanel Duo Bronze et Lumière ($70) a compact that holds both a matte powder bronzer and iridescent powder highlighter. She then added Chanel Ombre Première Gloss to the lids and Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Lipstick in Pulse — a sheer candy-peach red hue — on the lips.To recreate the vibe of Hutton’s fluffy ’70s blowout without it looking super dated, hairstylist Bryce Scarlett styled Robbie’s hair in loose, brushed-out waves and tied the front half of her hair into a mini half-up ponytail. To give the roots lots of volume, Scarlett used Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo ($26) (Scarlett is a brand ambassador for Moroccanoil), prepped the lengths of Robbie’s hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream ($34), and when he was done curling the hair and securing the ponytail, finished with a spritz of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray ($24).Read on to see every angle of Robbie’s ’70s-inspired beauty look — and perhaps be convinced to give orange makeup a go for yourself.
