Currently, Foundation is in discussions with various government agencies, including the Air Force, Navy, Army, and DHS, as they explore potential applications for their cutting-edge technology.

While a spokesperson from DHS confirmed that no formal agreements or contracts are in place with Foundation at this time, Pathak remains optimistic. He believes that their humanoid robot, known as Phantom, could significantly enhance border patrol operations by conducting reconnaissance and surveillance in areas that are difficult for human agents and traditional equipment to access.

“If drones and watchtowers were the ultimate solution, why do we still need human presence at the border?” Pathak posed thoughtfully. He emphasized that current automated solutions often fall short in complex environments, suggesting that humanoid robots could effectively bridge that gap.

Foundation is on the brink of releasing a more rugged version of the Phantom robot, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. Pathak described the robot’s capabilities, stating it can identify humans amidst obstacles, navigate uneven landscapes, and create environmental maps—all while flagging potential border crossings for human officers to address.

The CEO also pointed out the possibility of utilizing these robots for monitoring underground tunnels along the border, indicating that Foundation is eager to explore all potential use cases. “Our main goal is to keep our officers safe while allowing these robots to monitor continuously,” he explained.

As the conversation around this technology progresses, Pathak expressed confidence in the potential for a pilot program to launch soon, with larger implementations anticipated in the coming months. However, he noted that while weather resistance remains a challenge for the current model, enhancements are on the way.

Interestingly, Pathak mentioned that Foundation would consider arming the robots if requested by federal authorities, although he clarified that these machines would not be making enforcement decisions independently. “They will detect and flag issues, leaving the next steps to human officers,” he stated.
