In a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 turn of events, a 19-year-old man was apprehended over 14 hours after a mass shooting at Virginia State University left five individuals injured. Camron Harris, who is reportedly not affiliated with the university, was discovered hiding in a closet within Seward Hall around 4 p. m.
on Saturday.
Harris, a resident of Henrico, approximately 30 miles from the campus, faces serious charges including four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony. The incident unfolded shortly before 1:30 a. m.
when he allegedly opened fire, injuring a 20-year-old male student and four others aged 17 to 23, none of whom were students at the university.
Following the shooting, the victims were rushed to the hospital, with one having since been treated and released. Authorities have yet to disclose any information regarding a possible motive behind the violence, leaving many questions unanswered.
In the aftermath, the university was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. This tragic event occurred during a weekend marked by multiple mass shootings across the nation, including an outdoor concert in Kentucky that left four injured, including two children aged 4 and 14.
Additionally, in Chicago, a drive-by shooting on the South Side injured four people, two of them critically, while another shooting in Hartford, Connecticut, resulted in one fatality and four injuries at a nightclub early Sunday morning.
