A family outing to watch the Arizona Cardinals practice took a terrifying turn when a couple was allegedly seen stumbling through the scorching desert heat with their two young children in tow.
According to reports, Ryan and May Mullin were spotted walking with their 2-year-old and 4-year-old in Glendale around 6 p.m. on Sunday, when temperatures were reportedly hitting a blistering 108 degrees.
The family had been on foot for roughly three hours after leaving the NFL practice at State Farm Stadium, May allegedly told authorities, as the sun beat down on the pavement.
A concerned driver reportedly stopped to help after witnessing Ryan trip over one of his own kids and cross a road without the rest of the family, according to police.
The Good Samaritan offered the family a ride to escape the dangerous heat, but the situation quickly escalated.
Ryan allegedly became angry and punched the vehicle, causing him to fall over and injure his face, authorities claim.
The witness also reportedly told police that May appeared intoxicated and may have been sick on the side of the road.
When a police officer arrived, he allegedly saw the unsteady father trying to cross the street with his child and attempted to intervene.
Court documents claim Ryan ignored the officer’s commands, grabbing his child by the wrist and refusing to let go until the officer threatened to use force.
Both parents were described by officers as having slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong smell of alcohol, according to reports.
May reportedly told police the kids had consumed two bottles of water, but authorities noted one was still half full, raising questions about the family’s safety in the extreme heat.
The couple was booked on child 𝓪𝓫𝓾𝓼𝓮 charges, and neither could be reached for comment.
