Discovered by a cyclist near the Rainford bypass in St Helens, Merseyside, Julie was last seen alive in Liverpool city center on the night of August 5, 1994. Witnesses reported seeing her conversing with a man believed to be in his 20s or 30s behind the Royal Liverpool University Hospital around 11 PM. Alarmingly, another sighting occurred just hours later, around 2:30 AM on August 6, where a young woman resembling Julie was seen in a heated argument with a man outside the Wheatsheaf Public House, not far from where her body was ultimately found.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the man was attempting to force her into a white transit van.
