A California man’s desperate attempt to shield his girlfriend from the truth has landed her behind bars on a 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 attempted murder charge.
The bizarre case began when the unidentified victim showed up at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula with stab wounds on July 2. According to reports, he told officers a stranger—described as a Hispanic man in a red jacket—attacked him without warning in the 2300 block of North Fremont Street.
But something didn’t add up.
After canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses, investigators determined the story was fabricated. The real suspect, they say, was much closer to home.
Authorities allege the man had actually been stabbed during a heated argument with his 19-year-old girlfriend, Jerralyn Stringer, inside an apartment in the 400 block of Dela Vina Avenue.
Detectives soon secured an arrest warrant charging Stringer with attempted murder.
Public records show she was taken into custody just after 1 p. m. Thursday near Gibson and Forest Avenues in Pacific Grove.
Officials say she was arrested without incident and booked into Monterey County Jail on Friday.
She is currently being held on a staggering $1 million bail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
