In a moment ripped straight from an action movie, an everyday citizen with a handgun exchanged gunfire with a rifle-wielding attacker outside a packed Idaho In-N-Out — and witnesses say his quick actions may have given dozens of people the precious seconds they needed to escape.
The terrifying scene unfolded at the popular burger spot in Twin Falls, where authorities confirm two people were killed and seven others wounded. The shooter is believed to have turned the gun on himself, according to police.
Lane Koehn, 34, captured the chaos on his phone from a nearby stoplight. He told KPTV he watched in disbelief as a man carrying an AR-style rifle emerged from the drive-thru area — and then a second man with a pistol started firing back at him.
In the middle of it all, Koehn spotted an In-N-Out employee in uniform bleeding from the chest, being pulled across the parking lot by a coworker. He, the armed citizen, and that coworker stayed by the wounded worker’s side until paramedics arrived.
“She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,” Koehn said.
The armed responder’s willingness to step into the line of fire reportedly acted as a distraction — giving diners and employees enough time to scatter and find safety.
As of now, authorities have not released the gunman’s identity or a possible motive, leaving the Twin Falls community searching for answers.
