LeBron James Should Crash Playoff Top 10 In Big Defensive Category

The King continues to make history.

LeBron James’ name is etched everywhere in NBA history.

Points, assists, rebounds, steals, games played, and even (unfortunately) turnovers. That list becomes even lengthier and more impressive when isolating for the postseason, as James finds himself holding the record for most playoff games, points, and steals while sitting second in assists and fourth in rebounds.

The list might get even longer this season, as Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report points out that the Los Angeles Lakers legend could crack the top 10 in blocks, as he writes:

“This year [James] could crack the top 10 in another major category: blocks. While the playoff block leaders are headlined by legendary big men like Tim Duncan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon, James can become just the second non-big man (Julius Erving) to crack the top 10. Currently 11th overall with 270 career playoff rejections, James needs just 12 total blocks to pass Kevin McHale to jump to 10th. Given his current postseason average of 1.0 per game, look for James to join this club in the second round of the playoffs.”

As Swartz explains, LeBron would join Julius Erving as the only non-big man to crack the top 10, as he currently sits at number 11. Securing 12 total blocks shouldn’t be difficult, especially given LeBron’s elite athleticism and defensive instincts.

Swartz mathematically breaks down how LeBron averages 1 block per game in the postseason, meaning for him to have 12 more to break McHale’s record, he’d need to play in 12 playoff games, which would equate to the second round of the postseason.

The Lakers have a great roster and made the Western Conference Finals last season with a worse team and less continuity, so expect James to break the record this season.
