In a heartbreaking turn of events, the family of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur is calling for justice after she was tragically stabbed to death by an intruder while she slept beside her husband and their three-month-old baby. The 𝓈𝒽𝓸𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 incident unfolded in Hayes, west London, on the morning of July 12.
Reports indicate that Kaur, who had been studying in the UK since 2024 on a student visa, suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead shortly after 8:26 AM. Her mother, Baljeet, expressed her devastation to ITV News, stating, “We send them somewhere safe to study then this happens. We didn’t realize hooliganism and violence is happening there too.”
She added, “We want justice, we want our daughter’s body returned from Hayes.”
Kaur’s brother, Gurvinder Singh, revealed that the family learned of her death just days ago, leaving them in shock and uncertainty about how to proceed. “We don’t understand what we can do,” he said, highlighting their struggle to bring Kaur’s body back to their village in Punjab.
In a show of support, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall Gurdwara to assist with funeral expenses and the repatriation of Kaur’s body to India. As of Friday night, the fundraiser had successfully raised over £34,600.
The alleged assailant, Daniel Sean James, 46, reportedly roamed through a local playing field dressed in black and wielding a large knife before the attack. CCTV footage captured him approaching multiple homes, and he is accused of stabbing a man in his twenties just minutes before breaking into Kaur’s residence.
At approximately 7:51 AM, James allegedly kicked down the door of Kaur’s home. Her husband awoke to his wife’s scream, only to see a figure fleeing the scene. Prosecutor Charlene Sumnall revealed in court that James escaped through a kitchen window but suffered broken ankles in the process and collapsed shortly after attempting to flee.
According to court documents, both Kaur and the other victim were unknown to James. After receiving medical treatment, he was taken into custody and charged with Kaur’s murder, attempted murder, and possession of a blade. A plea hearing is set for October 1, with a trial scheduled for April 5 of next year.
