The charges come after police were called to a St. Louis home, responding to reports of a shooting around 4pm on June 26.

Police found seven-month-old baby, Kiyomi Parker, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the infant died shortly after.

The victim’s father Ca’Marion Pawnell, 19, had stored a gun underneath a mattress in a bedroom in the house, cops said.

The boy has been charged with first-degree murder in the juvenile court, police said.

Pawnell was also arrested after questioning and faces gun charges.

Pawnell later confirmed to police he had stashed the gun where the young shooter found it, the New York Post reports.

The relationship between Pawnell and the 10-year-old alleged killer is not clear.

A seven-year-old child was also in the home when shots were fired.

The St Louis Metropolitan Police statement said: “When officers arrived, they located 7-month-old Kiyomi Parker, who had been shot, inside the house.

“Officers immediately rushed the baby in their patrol SUV to an area hospital.

“Despite life-saving care from medical personnel and officers, the baby died from her injuries.

“Homicide Detectives and Child Abuse Detectives both arrived on the scene and conducted a joint investigation.

“Detectives learned during their preliminary investigation that a 10-year-old boy was responsible for shooting the baby and was taken into custody.

“Detectives are working with Juvenile Courts to determine next steps.

“A 19-year-old man was also arrested after questioning and will be facing gun charges.”

The mother of the deceased baby created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.

It reads: “At just 19 years old, I never imagined I would be planning my seven-month-old daughter’s funeral instead of watching her grow.

“My precious baby, Kiyomi Pawnell-Parker, was taken from me far too soon due to a senseless act of gun violence.

“No parent should ever have to experience this kind of heartbreak.

“As I try to navigate this unimaginable loss, I am asking for help during one of the most difficult times of my life.

“Any donations will go toward Kiyomi’s funeral and burial expenses, including her headstone, as well as transportation costs, household bills while I am unable to work, and other unexpected expenses that come with laying my baby to rest.”

The fund, created on Monday, stands at £1,357.50 ($1,795) at the time of writing.

The 10-year-old boy is currently held in custody.
