A FRANTIC manhunt for a suspected triple machete murderer has been launched amid fears he is trying to flee to the UK.
Shahadat Hossain, 43, reportedly slaughtered a couple and their eight-year-old daughter with a meat cleaver in a flat on the outskirts of Rome.
The murder victims have been named as 39-year-old Kamal Uddin, his wife Hosne Jahan Momotaj, and their child, Arowa.
The couple’s 20-year-old son, Amir Hossain, remains in intensive care at a hospital in the Italian capital.
Police have now set up roadblocks and are carrying out checks at train stations, bus terminals, airports and border crossings in a bid to catch their suspect.
The 43-year-old Bangladeshi has reportedly been in Rome for around six months, but has a wife and children living in London and previously lived in the UK for a long time.
He submitted an application for a residence permit at the Frosinone police headquarters in May 2025.
Cops fear he may be attempting to flee to Britain to join his family, although they believe he is likely still in the Rome area.
Urgent searches are taking place in isolated areas, including abandoned farmhouses on the outskirts of the city, where he may be plotting his escape.
Investigators are also considering the possibility that he may have taken his own life.
The last known signal from his phone was registered in the early hours of June 27 in an area near Rome’s Casalotti district, where the killings occurred.
It is believed he may have disposed of the device in an attempt to avoid being tracked.
Hossain is thought to have killed the family in a fit of rage after Hosne rejected his advances.
The murder suspect has a criminal record, and had reportedly shown up at the family home in Casalotti to harass her on several previous occasions, but had been sent away.
But cops think when the woman rejected Hossain for a final time on Friday, he killed her and her daughter with a meat cleaver.
He then allegedly tried to mop up the blood at the crime scene.
But he was caught in the act by two other members of the family returning home around 10pm, local media claimed.
Kamal was killed in the violent confrontation that followed.
Amir was rushed to hospital with stab wounds in serious condition.
Neighbours reported hearing piercing screams from the first-floor flat.
They said they then saw a person flee down the street, disappearing into the darkness.
Amir has undergone neurosurgery for a skull fracture and miraculously regained consciousness after the savage attack
But he remains in a delicate condition and has been given full police protection.
Kamal was reportedly well-known and well-liked in Casalotti.
He had reportedly asked members of the Bangladeshi community to intervene and persuade Hossain to stop coming to their home and leave his family alone.
Hossain reportedly worked outside a supermarket helping customers with their shopping and asking for tips.
In a local chat within the Bangladeshi community, one user reportedly wrote that he was “very bad especially with women”.
The user added: “I worked with him for 15 days. Fortunately, they removed him after we complained.”
