Anthony Joshua has revealed the career he would like do if he wasn’t a professional boxer, and it’s safe to say the answer has surprised a lot of his fans

British sporting sensation Anthony Joshua has revealed the career he would like if he wasn’t a professional boxer, and it’s safe to say the answer has surprised a lot of his fans.

The two-time heavyweight world champion faced his toughest test to date after agreeing to be interviewed by nine year old Josie Bell for children’s current affairs magazine The Week Junior.

The youngster quizzed Joshua on a range of topics as they went toe-to-toe at Finchley Boxing Club in North London, where the British star used to train as an amateur.

The pair covered topics from Joshua’s favourite food, to his biggest fears, the Barbie film and most importantly how to tackle school yard bullies. However, it was Joshua’s alternative career path that caught readers’ attention.

Bell asked Joshua: ‘If you hadn’t become a sports person, what job would you like?’. AJ took a moment to think before replying: ‘Good question. What job would I have? I think there’s two jobs I like.

‘One would be a bricklayer because I like building and I would always like to make my house bigger. I think everyone wants a bigger house. So I would want to make the house as big as I want. I would like to be a bricklayer.’

Joshua went on to add: ‘Do you know what an accountant is? It’s someone who counts everyone’s money. So I’m in control of the piggy bank. I’d probably like to be an accountant.’

The two-time heavyweight champion – who beat Francis Ngannou in dramatic fashion during his last outing in Saudi Arabia – finished by asking Bell what she wanted to be.

AJ said: ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’. The nine-year-old responded: ‘Probably a doctor’. Joshua couldn’t help but smile and praised the youngster’s choice by saying: ‘That’s nice. You can help people. That’s nice. That’s good.’

Bell fired another question over to Joshua. This time she wanted to know whether the Olympic gold medalist had any fears.

AJ proudly responded saying: ‘I don’t have a biggest fear – because I have a very positive mind and everything’s fun. Every day is a blessing. So I have no fear. Do you have any fears?’.

Bell revealed she was scared of spiders, promoting AJ to offer some words of advice.

The heavyweight boxer said: ‘Isn’t this isn’t interesting. Spiders are probably this big. And you’re this big? And you’re scared of this little spider?

‘Do you think they can crawl up your sleeve and kind of get into your ear? Don’t worry about that. Don’t worry about spiders. You’re the hero. Don’t worry about no spiders.’

Bell managed to elicit more information from Joshua, asking about his favourite film and how he would deal with bullies in the play ground.

While on the topic of films, AJ said: ‘I haven’t actually seen the Barbie film or the Wonka film.’ Before adding: ‘My favourite film is Rocky.

‘It’s about a guy who has potential. But he has to become his own hero. It’s a really good story about a guy who becomes a famous boxer.’

When discussing how to deal with school ground bullies, AJ told Bell: ‘I wasn’t bullied at school. But at school, sometimes people would make fun of you if you fell over. Or if you’ve done something silly.

‘I always had a good time at school because we always take the mick out of each other. And if I saw someone getting bullied, I would try and protect them. Because I don’t think getting bullied is nice. And I don’t like bullies.

Joshua clearly enjoyed his chat with Bell. He was pictured laughing away as the pair discussed the various topics while sitting ringside at Finchley Boxing Club

‘The best thing you can do is go and find your teacher as well to let them make sure that they take care of the student. So I’d try and make sure that they’re protected at first. And then I’d try and find a teacher as soon as possible.’

Speaking about their chat, Bell said: ‘Anthony was super kind, he answered all my questions. I was a bit nervous but he helped me loads.

‘I am hoping he takes my advice and goes to see the Barbie movie. I really want to interview more massive celebs for the week junior!’.

Fans are hoping to see AJ back in action soon after impressing in his last two outings against Ngannou and Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia.

AJ knocked Ngannou out inside two rounds of their bout on March 8 and forced a stoppage against Wallin on the Day of Reckoning card in December 2023.
