- Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi was sarcastic when he scored in the draw with LA Galaxy.
It’s ironic that when MLS is being labeled “Messi League Soccer” , Inter Miami’s No. 10 superstar is ridiculed for needing a red card from the opponent to make an impact at Inter Miami.
Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi scored for Herons in their latest match against LA Galaxy. Messi scored a dramatic equalizer in the 92nd minute in that match, the decisive goal coming in front of a star-studded crowd in California with the Galaxy reduced to 10 men after Marco Delgado was sent off.
ESPN journalist Alvaro Morales used those elements to mock the GOAT of world football. Morales wrote on Instagram: “Here it is, only with Galaxy’s red card and seven minutes of extra time could Messi score. So on go! Messi Football Tournament. You have been warned.”
Although Morales’ words were said in jest, it raises questions that have already been raised in America. It has been suggested that MLS is placing too much emphasis on Messi’s presence in Miami , while ignoring other teams and players.

David Beckham helped make Major League Soccer meaningful. Messi became the first MLS player to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or last year as a member of Inter Miami.
Beckham, one of the co-founders and co-owners of Inter Miami, not only recruited the Argentine superstar but also turned the club into a mini Barcelona by signing three of his former teammates in Club: Luis Suárez, Jordi. Alba and Sergio Busquets.
All four started against the Galaxy, with Messi and Alba combining for a picture-perfect goal in the second minute of stoppage time to help Inter Miami pick up an important point in match two of MLS.
