Grammys 2022: Lady Gaga dazzles while performing in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired gown

Lady Gaga ensured the night was her own as she attended the star-studded 64th Grammy Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday evening.

The singer, 36, dazzled in an Elie Saab Haute Couture Robin egg-blue satin watteau gown with a dramatic bow feature reminiscent of the iconic costume donned by Marilyn Monroe in the 1953 musical-comedy Gentleman Prefer Blondes while performing at the annual event.

Gaga performed a collection of songs from her and collaborator Tony Bennett‘s latest album Love For Sale, which took home the award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album earlier in the night.

95-year-old Bennett, who was forced to skip Sunday’s ceremony due to his ‘continuing struggle with Alzheimer’s,’ appeared via video feed to introduce Gaga to the stage.

‘Hi everyone! Please welcome, Lady Gaga!’ exclaimed the legendary crooner, who jovially waved at the camera in a black suit.

Soon after, Gaga began belting the lyrics to their album’s title track in her ultra glamorous gown while her tuxedo-clad band performed around her.

Her bright blonde hair was styled in a vintage-inspired updo and she was decked out in winged eyeliner and peachy pink lipstick. As for jewels, the glamour girl rocked a pair of sparkling diamond earrings.

Upon the chipper song’s conclusion, the Bad Romance singer addressed the crowd of her peers and expressed gratitude for being able to ‘be part of this wonderful community of musicians.’

She then reassured audiences at home that herself and her music industry cohorts ‘love making you smile’ with their work.

‘So if you’re wondering how we feel. Do I love you? Oh, boy, do I,’ said Gaga, before launching into a performance of Love For Sale’s Do I Love You.

She was visibly emotional during the stunning performance as footage and photos of herself and Tony appeared on screens behind her.

After her performance, Gaga made sure to mingle with fellow performers and nominees seated in the arena. She was captured having a sweet reunion with longtime friend Donatella Versace.

Gaga was also seen cozying up to BTS member V, who was looking handsome in all-black. She placed her arms on the young man’s shoulders and enjoyed a brief heart-to-heart before kissing his cheek.

She appeared to be having an extra fun chat with Lil Nas X, who she took a selfie with mid-show. She puckered up for the camera, while the 22-year-old hitmaker showed off his custom grill.

Gaga and Tony beat out Norah Jones’ Til We Meet Again (Live) Tori Kelly’s A Tori Kelly Christmas, Ledisi’s Ledisi Sings Nina, Willie Nelson’s That’s Life and Dolly Parton‘s A Holly Dolly Christmas in the highly-competitive Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category.

The win marks the 13th for Lady Gaga from 34 nominations and the 19th for Tony Bennett from 41 nominations.

Their album was also nominated for Album of the Year along with three awards for their song I Get A Kick Out of You – Best Music Video Of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year.

Though Tony was invited to Sunday’s ceremony,  Bennett’s son Danny told Variety that he would not be attending due to his health and continued struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

‘Tony is beyond thrilled, particularly at the young age of 95, to once again be recognized along with his musical collaborator and dear friend Lady Gaga by the Recording Academy for their album Love for Sale,’ Danny began in his statement to the outlet.

‘To have the album nominated in six categories including Album of the Year and Record of the Year is an incredible honor,’ he added.

‘Although the producers had invited both Tony and Gaga to perform in Sunday’s Grammys broadcast, it is unfortunate that due to his continuing struggle with Alzheimer’s, he was not able to accept,’ Danny continued.

‘It was decided that it would be fitting for Lady Gaga to perform on her own to represent for both of them,’ Bennett’s son, 68, explained.

He concluded: ‘There is no doubt, that she will offer up an impeccable performance from Love for Sale, which is Tony’s final album. He will be cheering her on as he watches from his home in New York City.’
