I found out my wife was cheating on me and planning to steal from me through her internet history. I wasn’t snooping. I just needed to do a quick Google search, and both my phone and laptop were upstairs. Hers was sitting on the coffee table.

As soon as I started typing, her recent searches popped up. She’d been looking at plane tickets to tropical places like the Maldives and Fiji. That shouldn’t have been alarming, but something felt off. She never liked beach vacations.
She preferred hiking. There was no way she was daydreaming about Fiji. I checked her search history, and at first, it was just flights and romantic getaways. We’d been talking about a vacation, so I thought she was finding a nice spot for us.
Then I hit searches from earlier in the week: “Is it illegal to empty a joint account? ” and “Can you file for divorce from overseas? ” I realized she was planning to leave me and take our money. I couldn’t believe it.
We were as happy as we’d ever been. We did everything together, went on dates, and our sex life was fantastic. I refused to accept that she’d do this. But the searches kept coming.
Over a month ago, she’d looked up how to open a bank account in another country and international transfer fees. I went from confused to terrified. I needed to know who she was running with. I couldn’t find anything online, so I waited until she fell asleep, took her phone, and went to the living room.
The last person she texted was a good night with a kissy face emoji. It hurt more because we’d been together all evening, and she was texting him right in front of me. I opened their conversation. It was Mark, a guy from our climbing gym who’d moved away a couple of years ago.
He was barely in our lives, but clearly, they were close. They flirted constantly, sent nudes, and talked about sneaking away when he came to town. They had a plan: she’d take the money, they’d run to another country, wait for the divorce to finalize, then come back and start a new life with my money. She’d been siphoning small amounts from our joint account for months.
It added up to a few thousand dollars. Mark was pushing her to take everything, convincing her the court would screw her over if she didn’t. He promised everything would work out. I was certain he was scamming her, but I didn’t care about her.
I couldn’t let him steal my money. I screenshotted everything as evidence. I knew I needed to protect myself and get back what she’d already taken. I didn’t want to spook her into running off early.
I contacted a lawyer immediately. I gave him the screenshots and financial records. He advised me to secure my documents, freeze the joint account, open a new one, and change all my passwords. I did all of it.
The lawyer said the money she’d taken could be recovered during the divorce as misappropriated assets. I kept pretending nothing was wrong while I prepared. I confronted her as soon as the papers were ready. I told her I knew about the affair and that we were getting a divorce.
She was in shock, then cried and apologized. She said she and Mark weren’t a thing anymore, that she realized she only wanted me. I didn’t believe her. She’d probably figured out I froze the account and was just waiting for another chance.
I told her I knew about her plot to steal and leave the country. She swore it wasn’t true, but I didn’t buy it. She fell to her knees and begged me to change my mind. It disgusted me.
I walked out. When she calmed down, she said she couldn’t agree to a divorce because I was all she had. She claimed Mark manipulated her. We argued for an hour.
In the end, she said she’d give me a few weeks of separation and needed a week to move out. I agreed, just to get her out of the house. I shut her out completely. She slept in the guest room, and I locked my door.
She tried to seduce me twice, but I avoided her. By the end of the week, she gave up. When she left, she said she’d be in touch. I changed the locks and ignored her calls.
I only asked if she was ready to sign. She signed in less than two weeks. The divorce was messy but mostly in my favor. The court focused on her siphoning money, and I got more than half the joint account and kept the house.
She got minimal alimony, which pissed me off, but I was glad to be done. Six months later, she showed up at my door. She’d moved in with Mark after the divorce, and he’d convinced her to invest her money with him. He disappeared with everything, leaving her with nothing.
She asked if she could stay in the guest room, even offered to pay. I asked if she was offering to pay with my own money. She had nothing to say. I told her to use the alimony payments to find a place.
She refused to leave, so I threatened to call the police. I warned her not to come back or I’d get a restraining order. I haven’t seen her since. My sister heard she lost her job and is couch surfing.
She tells people we broke up over mutual differences, but everyone knows the truth. I loved her completely, but I don’t feel pity. She threw away our marriage for more. Mark won, but at least he took her down.
She reported him to the police, and there’s an investigation. I’d be happy if they caught him, but I’m too busy moving on. The best revenge is a life well lived.
