At 57 years old, Sandra Bullock has announced her temporary retirement from acting.
From drama student to Hollywood actress
Although Sandra was born in the USA, she spent her childhood in Germany with her mother who was an opera singer and father, an army employee. She inherited her mother’s artistic side and moved back to the USA to study drama at East Carolina University. Before debuting as a film actress, she studied theater in New York and received recognition for a play she appeared in.
The actress’s first movie role was called Hangmen (1987) and her first leading role was in Who Shot Pat? (1989). Sandra Bullock made her breakthrough a few years later, working alongside Keanu Reeves in the thriller Speed (1994). Climbing her way up the career ladder steadily, Sandra continued to star in various genres of film. In 2006, she reunited with Keanu Reeves for the acclaimed romantic drama The Lake House.
World recognition and an Academy Award
n the 2000s and 2010s, now a well-established actress, Sandra appeared in her most iconic and famous roles. For example the comedy Miss Congeniality which was also a box office hit, Gravity with George Clooney on her side, and the biographical drama The Blind Side. For the latter, Sandra received an Academy Award for her role as a woman who adopts a boy who later becomes a very successful football player.
In the late 2010s, Sandra Bullock continued to star in a number of successful movies, including Ocean’s Eight where she portrayed a mastermind, the supernatural thriller Bird Box, and The Lost City. Her portrayal of a romance writer in the action-adventure comedy will also be one of her last roles, at least for a while, along with her supporting role in Bullet Train. Throughout her acting career, she has appeared in 49 movies.
Becoming a mother after 40 and finding her true love
During her long and successful career in the movie industry, Sandra also had relationships with some of her Hollywood colleagues. She dated and was engaged to her former co-star Tate Donovan for 3 years, then later had a very private romance with Matthew McConaughey. Although the 2 broke up after 2 years, they are still very good friends up to this day.
At the age of 46 and after a long adoption process, the actress became a mother when she adopted her son, Louis Bardo. 5 years later, she adopted another child, a girl named Laila. When she became a parent, Sandra said that all her expectations were fulfilled, “The beautiful thing that I was constantly told was, ’The perfect child will find you. You will find your child.’”
In 2015 Sandra Bullock also met her current partner, photographer Bryan Randall. “I found the love of my life. We share 3 beautiful children — 3 children, including his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever,” Sandra shared her feelings in an interview.Bryan and Sandra met when she hired him as a photographer for her son’s birthday party, and they are co-parenting the actress’s 2 small children together.

I’m so burnt out. I’m so tired, and I’m so not capable of making healthy, smart decisions and I know it.”
And if you’re wondering what the beloved actress will be doing during her break, she’ll be “in the place that makes me happiest”: with her family. “I just want to be 24/7 with my babies and my family. That’s where I’m gonna be for a while.”And although Sandra hasn’t revealed yet how long this break is going to last, one thing is sure.
