Since his early days, Woods had been on the course of becoming an all-time great. He was so obsessed with golf that he once asked Santa for golf clubs at the age of 5 as Christmas gifts.
That’s right, Woods asked for golf clubs as a Christmas presents instead of sweets or some other toys. This hilarious yet cute development took place in 1981 when the Today Show interviewed a 5-year-old Woods.
The interview originally started with Woods’ childhood coach Rudy Duran listing down some of the achievements the young Woods had achieved. The spotlight would soon turn to him. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Woods seemed to be stuck on a dead end with no answer. However, after thinking for a moment he wished for two golf clubs.

Woods was introduced to this sport by his father, former US Army official Earl Woods. From a young age Woods showed off the skills and talents he possessed. The golfing legend himself once revealed how he went one summer unbeaten and how his life peaked at the age of 11.
What records did Tiger Woods break at the age of 5?
Ever since a young age Tiger Woods has been good at golf. His accomplishments and wins have somewhat made him synonymous with the word “golf“. He started off strong and then matured into being one of the greats of the game. While the story of Woods asking for golf clubs as gifts at the age of 5 is funny and light-hearted, there was a reason behind it.
He was just too good at the game. As per this then coach Rudy Duran, the young prodigy had already started to make waves across the golfing community for his skills and competitive nature.

At the age of 5, Woods tied with 17-year-olds, shot 3-over par 57, almost defeated a high school star, and collected some regulation scores. While all this may seem normal for a teenage kid, for a 5-year-old this was considered astonishing.
He’s tied 17-year-olds for low gross. He shot 3-over-par 57 on two occasions, that was a tie for first and lost in a playoff and this man was on the high school golf team. He’s also shot in the low 100s on regulation golf courses, 6800-6900 yards — that’s from the championship tee.Tiger Woods’ former coach Rudy Duran on his achivements at the age of 5 via Today Show.
