Travis Kelce’s improbable trick play, which would have given the Chiefs the lead over the Bills on Sunday night, was called back because of a bone-headed penalty by Kadarius Toney.
Kelce caught a pass over the middle from Patrick Mahomes and then proceeded to throw a perfect lateral to Toney across the field. Toney then made his way into the end-zone with ease to give Kansas City the lead.
However, the touchdown and play were nullified. Why? Toney lined up offsides. Yes, you read that correctly.
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t make many mistakes with Andy Reid at the helm. But they just can’t seem to get out of their way as of late.
We don’t even think this was scripted either. It looks like Travis Kelce called the play on the fly, which just goes to show how much confidence he has in himself as a player.
It’s an absolute shame this didn’t count. Toney’s foot was just a few inches offsides before the ball was snapped, which is why the play was nullified.
The Chiefs couldn’t strike magic a second time, unfortunately. Buffalo hangs on to win this one 20-17.
